Home is Where the Heart Is
October 13, 2008 at 7:02 am | In Group 6, Source: Blogs, U.S. Senate | Leave a CommentA common saying is “home is where the heart is” and if you examine the travel records of Senator Dole, her heart is clearly not in North Carolina. Since her election in 2002 and inauguration in 2003 she has spent a grand total of 269 days in North Carolina. Over the past 4 and 3 quarter years she has spent less than one full year in North Carolina. Now her office may be in Washington D.C. and she does serve on various committees in D.C. but there are numerous Senators that make much further commutes to be in their home states. Senator Joe Biden takes the train home every single work day. For someone who claims to be in touch with the people of North Carolina and the problems they face she spends quite a lot of time away. It raises an interesting question. With the new information age and the ability to be aware of events going on all over the place almost in real time does Liddy Dole need to spend as much time in North Carolina. I say yes. Even in the age of the internet and technology there is no way she can know the needs of the citizens of North Carolina without getting out and talking to them.
